I obtained an auto insurance policy in August 2007. In January 2008 (five months after the policy was purchased) I received my policy renewal. The renewal price was substantially more than the initially policy cost because the insurance company had written my original policy with innacurrate information (assumptions they made that were incorrect, there was no falsification on my part). I cancelled the policy and found a new provider. The insurance company then sent me a bill retroactively charging me for the original policy with the new information and premium changes. I was on a bike and I accidentally hit someone's car and broke the back windshield. Nothing else on the car is damaged except windshield. Later the car owner's car insurance company (state farm) send me a payment of $1700, and they have a subrogation service (Afni) to collect payment. Before you answer, please read this thoroughly. I am a student and Illinois Resident. I have PPO health insurance in Illinois that I pay out of pocket for. $1000 deductible, 100% covered. I go to school in Florida and have employer insurance in FL (ever since Sept 2008), but it's an HMO. The PPO my job offers has no deductible but is 80/20 coverage, so I opted the HMO. For the average person, it would make no sense to have 2 policies, but I'm not ordinary. I have many pre-existing conditions (some I was born with), hence the Illinois coverage. In Dec of last year, before my FL insurance kicked in, I had a multitude of issues which caused me to have to use my BCBS of IL in Florida where I'm attending school. Many of those things are at bay now, but for doctor visits, exams, etc to arise other than routine check ups, should I start using my FL HMO insurance and just use my IL insurance for when I visit home during breaks? Or should I just drop my FL insurance altogether? The reason this is an issue is b/c I am afraid I my rates will go up or they drop me if I continue to use my insurance which was meant to be for IL, but I have been using it in another state. Yes they will cover b/c it's PPO and it falls under the BCBS umbrella, but this is the risk I take. I have NEVER crashed or damaged anyone elses property in any way. I understand that young driver insurance is expensive but my insurance still seems to be twice as expensive as any of my friends. Car Insurance, ammended details of profession lead to increased premium?

My car insurance company rang me two weeks ago asking to update my details. I was previously registered as a student and unemployed but changed this to working part time as an admin assistant. A week ago I received my new certificate of insurance but today they rang me to say that my premium had increased by 150! I find this difficult to understand how changing my profession from student to admin could whack up my premium by this much. At the same time they offered me a new deal from another insurer , which they claimed would be cheaper, but I refused over the telephone as I felt too confused at the time. Now they told me that they will be sending me the bill to pay off the new increased premium. Can anyone help me confirm whether insurance companies can do this? I am not driving my car any more than I previously had and I cannot see as how my new job increases the risk of me having an accident!! Thanks

I am thinking about buying a 1999 ford fiesta sometime. I have opted for a 5 door car rather than a 3 door car. I have heard of some people paying up to 3k per year for insurance. How much difference roughly in terms of would having 5 doors make in stead of 3? My uncle and aunt are struggling with my 16 year old cousin who suffers from anorexia and she will go up to 3 weeks without eating anything. Hi, I'm starting a new job in Manchester next month and I'm trying to find the cheapest way to commute. I'll be travelling from Rock Ferry to Manchester Piccadilly 5 days a week and my working hours will be roughly 9am to 5pm, although some days will require an earlier start and a later finish. I've looked at a rail season ticket and was shocked to discover it would cost 3008.00 with First Trans Penine. I've also read that the train journey is horrendous. My wife and I share a car but realistically, she can't rely on me to pick her up and drop her off at work at the same time every day (she works in Liverpool) so we would potentially need another car. With that, comes the initial cost of buying the vehicle, then tax, insurance, MOT and weekly fuel, which in my mind will cost even more than the rail season ticket. Added to that is the fact that we're not particularly well off so can't afford more than a couple of thousand for a 2nd hand car. A brand new car on finance would be out of the question. So, are there any regular Liverpool to Manchester commuters out there and if so, how do you keep your costs down? Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
